48 Days and Counting

My pregnancy app sends me weekly notifications to let me know that a new week of pregnancy has begun. It lets me know baby's approximate size and other interesting info. I open up the app today and see the notification "You have 48 days left" and I promptly do a double-take. 48 days?! That seems pretty sudden...I mean I have known since August 13th that a baby was in there and all, but 48 days seems just around the corner.
Tomorrow is another exciting milestone. We get to see our son on 3-D ultrasound. I can hardly wait! The two ultrasounds we've had so far have been amazing; to see our little boy opening and closing his fists is additional evidence of the miracles God performs every day.
In the next few weeks, I have so much to look forward to. Ultrasound tomorrow and then I'm so grateful for the wonderful baby showers that are being organized by family and friends. It is amazing to know that so many people are thinking of us and want to help prepare our lives for this new baby!

While on the subject of things to be thankful for, I am extremely pleased that I am pregnant at a time when maternity clothes are more fashionable and comfortable than ever before. I officially put away my pre-pregnancy jeans and work pants awhile ago and have been tooling around in what I consider to be "classy" yoga pants. Oh yes, it's happening. I realize that clothes aren't everything, but it is nice to feel put-together when I am sporting what looks to be a basketball around my middle. I wore a pair of maternity pants last week and the only word I can use to describe them is "dumpy"-they were not pretty, or flattering, or comfortable...at all. Yards of fabric bunched around my hips and they were about a mile too long. I do have a pair now that aren't quite so ill-fitting, so I feel better about wearing them.
I am also grateful to be pregnant in winter for two reasons:
  1. The weather isn't blazing hot. I can't imagine being pregnant with weather such as we endured last summer. It was unreal hot. I may have to dodge some ice and snow now and then, but at least I'm not sweating constantly. To think I would ever be grateful for ice and snow. But there is God's sense of humor for you.
  2. I don't have to longingly pack away my summer clothes because they don't fit...which they don't, they're just already packed away for winter. Summer is my favorite season and I wouldn't relish the task of finding light summery clothes that actually fit.
Now before it sounds like I am hailing pregnancy as the greatest thing since sliced bread, there are a few things that aren't quite so fabulous. I can safely say that I have never made so many strange and downright unnatural noises. I sit down and groan, I reposition myself on the couch and grunt, and then there is the very real task of just getting out of bed. I almost need a rolling start in order to throw my feet over the side and get up in the mornings. I'm not saying this journey won't be worth it (it will!), it's just pretty interesting. A few days ago, Eric told me, "Babe, I really love your strange sounds." At least I still amuse him. So there's that.

I also never knew a human being could pee so much in such a short amount of time. A few nights ago I ran to the bathroom 3 times in 15 minutes. Who does that? If you know me, the answer is not Angie; well not under normal, non-pregnant circumstances.
Regardless of the ups and downs, I have to say that this whole experience has been pretty smooth. I am very blessed! Did I mention excited???!
