Summer Winds Down

This has been a whirlwind of a summer! It's crazy how one summer can be so many things at once: busy, quiet, calm, predictable, wild, and now...over.

The kids began the summer with swim lessons from the town of Speedway. The swim lessons were held at Speedway High School each weekday for thirty minutes. Brooke was apprehensive before the lessons began, she has never had her swimmies of in the pool before and was concerned about getting in without them. Brooke went from dreading the lessons and crying while getting in the pool to loving her lessons. This change was directly related to the fact that she developed a small crush on one of the swimming teachers.

Isaac loved the lessons, he took off his swimmies last year and has never looked back. He spent a good deal of time playing with the other three boys in his group level but did learn the front stroke.

This summer also gave us time to visit: the Avon Splash Pad, the free summer movie offering at the Danville Royal Theater, Leonard Park in Speedway, and the Speedway Public Library. I tried not to pack the summer, my goal was to do things with the kids but not be overwhelmed by activity. They loved our outings. Amazingly, all the above activities were 100% free! The Avon Splash Pad is in Washington Park and gives the kids ample opportunity to run and splash through the water. We went on one of the many scorching July days we had this summer, so it was pretty perfect. They loved going to the movie and it was nice to be in a theater filled with kids so that my talking children didn't really disturb other people...who had chatting kids with them as well. :) The Speedway Library offered a free reading program to encourage kids to read, I know my two loved visiting the library, checking out books, and (of course) choosing a prize each week from the prize box.

We also went on our summer vacation to Florida in July. The kids made it through a very long car ride down south. We stopped for lunch in Nashville, TN at Hugh-Baby's BBQ and Burger Shop. What a phenomenal place! It has an outdoor play area for kids which was perfect for our kiddos after sitting in a car for hours. The food was definitely something to write home about. I recommend the cheeseburger with everything, an order of fries (hand-cut and sprinkled with salt and pepper) with a side of comeback sauce, and a vanilla milkshake. I'll tell you, this place was so good we stopped again on our way home to Indy. If only it were closer!! https://www.hughbabys.com/
